Summary

It is clear that MyHosting is the king of VPS customization. They also understand that switching to VPS could be viewed as intimidating, and have therefore put in a lot of work to make the usability nice and easy, even for someone with no experience. While the base price for their VPS plans are extremely cheap, be prepared to pay a few dollars extra per month on top of the basic price for additional add ons you may want or need. Even so, the price will still come out to lower than what most other VPS providers offer. MyHosting is a premium service and is well worth the money, even if the prices were on the more expensive side of the spectrum, which they are not. The value proposition is an excellent one. A VPS service like MyHosting will provide you with peace of mind and will most likely far exceed your expectations.

Features

(4.0/5.0)

MyHosting has four separate pages on their website discussing, in detail, all of their VPS features. To start, you receive all of the features you would get on a shared hosting solution such as daily backups, e-commerce features, SSL certificates, spam filtering, advertising credits, etc. That said, each MyHosting VPS has its own network address, data migration, login credentials, and more. Additionally, and to elaborate on the privacy you receive, one of the benefits of MyHosting’s VPS is an exclusive protection layer called Kernel Service Abstraction Layer (KSAL). This has many useful benefits but one that stands out is that it prevents one VPS from bringing down the entire server.

You also have two virtualization platforms to choose from: Linux Virtuozzo VPS or Windows Hyper-V VPS. Once you have chosen your platform, MyHosting also offers the option to choose the cPanel WHM or Plesk Panel control panel. These control panels differ however both provide for an easy to use experience. Many people have negative preconceived notions that VPS is complicated however the flexibility of these control panels offered by MyHosting really makes it easy for you to settle into VPS.

As for pricing, it is no secret that MyHosting initially became an industry leader by offering their customers bargain basement prices. However, the unique thing about MyHosting is that they have stayed extremely competitive and have even reduced pricing over the years, unlike most companies who become big and generally inflate their pricing. Another nice thing to see is MyHosting’s wide range of plans. In fact, you can customize your own plan that caters exactly to what you need. However, for this review, we will stick to a breakdown of their standard VPS plans because they have 13 different plans to choose from (including the one in which you customize yourself). Since you can choose between Linux, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 plans, we have compared the 3 basic VPS hosting services within each category:

We would also like to point out that the above chart shows only the basic features that most people searching for a VPS are looking for. Each VPS plan comes with a wealth of extra features at no cost such as support for unlimited sub domains, system performance reports and online backup tools. Additionally and as previously mentioned, you can customize your plan by purchasing extra features, such as SiteLock, for a few extra dollars per month per feature.

Reliability

(5.0/5.0)

MyHosting is one of the leaders in reliability within the VPS market. While there is no such thing as 100% uptime, MyHosting still guarantees 100% uptime. From what we have tested, MyHosting is true to their word. We have yet to see any downtime. Moreover, should a customer experience any downtime, he/she is entitled to Hosting Service Credits equal to the amount of downtime experienced (1% of downtime experience will net you 1% of the monthly subscription fees).

Support

(4.0/5.0)

MyHosting VPS service does not offer differ from their shared hosting support options. This is because there is nothing extra to offer. Just like on a shared hosting plan, on your VPS plan you will receive 24/7/365 phone, e-mail and live chat support. While our experience is one out of millions, we have tested them repeatedly and have no complaints. The service is quick, and the representatives are friendly and particularly knowledgeable. Further, if you are a DIY (do it yourself) type of person, you can browse through MyHosting’s helpful tutorials or online knowledgebase.
