Looking for a solid and safe choice for a cloud storage provider? Look no further – ElephantDrive is your choice with their wide range of features and top notch security and customer service. They are a bit pricey but again, you get what you pay for.

All cloud storage services sport a list of features. However, you will most likely not find one that explains exactly what you are getting. ElephantDrive does a great job of clarifying everything you will receive, including their long list of powerful features. Some of these include:

  • Up to 2TB of space (upgraded plan)
  • File synching
  • File sharing
  • File versioning & archiving
  • Supports: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS
  • Web & mobile access
  • Automatic, scheduled and/or selective backups
  • Integrated software for NAS
  • LAN transfers
  • Map backup

We would like to mention that you are not required to download the ElephantDrive software in order to store your data in the cloud. Downloading software could slow you down and ElephantDrive’s web access eliminates this potential negative.

Ease of Use

While there is no need to download the software, should you choose to do so, it will take roughly one minute. Set up and log in is extremely intuitive and user friendly. ElephantDrive’s tagline is “making life in the cloud simple” and they live up to this.

Also, if you are a Windows user, you will have no learning curve with the ElephantDrive service. The ElephantDrive Desktop (File) Manager looks like a Microsoft Windows ‘My Computer’ layout as seen below. Simply select the files or folders you would like to store in the cloud and click ‘upload.’

For a relatively new company and one that is in serious need of advertising, we were stunned to see the high prices which are generally reserved for premier brand name cloud storage companies such as DropBox or SugarSync. While their service is certainly worth it, it is probably not a great idea to price their service like that in such a competitive environment. However, that is a discussion for the ElephantDrive team. The individual plan starts at $9.95/month which gets you 100GB of cloud storage space. The basic business plan starts at $25/month which gets you 50GB of storage space. If you pay annually instead of monthly, you can save 16% on individual plans and 33% on business plans. Also, ElephantDrive offers 2GB of free storage space. We highly recommend you to start with this and then upgrade accordingly.

ElephantDrive took cloud security to a whole other level that is on the same wavelength as SugarSync. Firstly, your data is encrypted pre transfer by 128-bit SSL encryption. Then, once it arrives at the data centers, your data is secured by 256-bit military grade encryption. So what’s the difference between ElephantDrive and SugarSync? ElephantDrive employs an ‘open design’ mentality which allows cloud and security experts to assess ElephantDrives current levels of security 24/7. If any potential vulnerability is discovered, it is fixed immediately.

We have said this before and we will say this again: people want instant gratification in today’s world. Unfortunately, an email system will generally provide a response to your inquiry in at least 15 minutes. If it’s an emergency, that could feel like a lifetime. ElephantDrive does offer support via a fast email system however they also offer phone support which, in our test, was historically fast in regard to response times for phone support. Additionally, they offer a useful helpdesk and an unbelievable video tutorial section.
